Stock Market, Airline, Newspaper Tech Crash: Coincidence Or Conspiracy?

  • by: Alan Duke

Technical glitches halted trading on the New York Stock Exchange for three hours, grounded United Airlines planes for an hour and crashed the Wall Street Journal's website Wednesday. Is it just a coincidence or were the failures part of a coordinated cyber attack?

Sen. Barbara Mikulski, a Maryland Democrat, raised the question to the head of the FBI during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing.

"I don't believe in coincidences," Mikulski told FBI Director James Comey, according to Gizmodo.com. "Is the FBI investigating these as breaches?"

Director Comey downplayed the likelihood of anything sinister. "We don't see a connection to a cyber breach or cyberattack."
